PRO MMA (promma.info) was on hand Saturday night, July 18th, at Froggy’s Fight Night for “SSF Invitational: Madness.” Among the teams represented were SSF Submission Academy, H.I.T. Squad, Team R.O.C.K and Lakeland MMA.

In the main event local favorite and SSF fighter Thomas Campbell who holds titles with multiple organizations defeated Adam Smothers from Team R.O.C.K by TKO at 1:58 of the first round. Campbell was able to clinch with Smothers and take him down to the ground and eventually gained the mount position where he rained down punches until the referee had no choice but to stop the fight much to the delight of the pro-Campbell crowd.

Afterwards Campbell thanked the fans for their support and gave a special thanks to his parents and teammates at SSF. With the win Campbell improved his record to 9-2 and showed why he is a champion that will be a tough match up for any contender looking to take his belt.

Also on the card, and representing Matt Hughes’ H.I.T. Squad gym out of Granite City, Ill. was welterweight Coltin Cole who took on Lakeland MMA’s Sam Grace. Cole who drove down earlier in the day from Illinois and cut 10 pounds to make the weight, showed early on the benefits from training at a gym with top coaches and fighters as he landed a beautiful spinning back kick in the first few minutes that brought the crowd to their feet.

Cole also had two solid takedowns in the first round but was not able to capitalize as Grace got back to his feet and showed great competitiveness by coming right at Cole with a variety of strikes.

To start the second round Cole again got a takedown and while Grace reversed Cole sunk in a triangle, rolled over and started raining down punches until the referee stepped in due to Grace not being able to defend himself.

After the fight PRO MMA (promma.info) talked with Cole about his victory. “I knew coming in that I had an experience advantage and I just wanted to give the fans a great fight and try to improve my game. I really enjoyed fighting here and the other fighters treated me great,” said Cole.

The Fight of the Night trophy went to Team R.O.C.K.’s Marcus Hammond for his unanimous victory over a very game Jaron Bray from the SSF Submission Academy. Bray controlled most of the first round by taking Hammond down and using top control to land some ground and pound.

In the second and third rounds Hammond found his range and used good boxing skills to keep Bray within distance and earn points on his way to a unanimous decision victory.

This was a great night of fights that were packed with exciting action and had a very enthusiastic crowd that made for a great atmosphere.
