Welterweight Final

Seichi Ikemoto (18-15-5) vs. Tarec Saffiedine (6-0)
Round 1

Ikemoto opens with an axe handle strike that misses. The two clinch and Ikemoto ends up against the ropes. The referee breaks the clinch. Ikemoto throws strike from the outside, but does not land anything significant. Hard punch and kick combination scores for Saffiedine. Once again they’re in the clinch against the ropes. Ikemoto lands a few knees but gives up double under hooks. Ikemoto defends well against the takedown, but eats a few knees. Saffiedine eats a few knees as well. The referee breaks the action again. High kick misses for Ikemoto. Saffiedine lands a few punches as Ikemoto comes in wild. Ikemoto throw persistent kicks that can’t find his opponent. Double leg from Ikemoto is stuff, and they clinch and trade knees again. Saffiedine nearly lands a muay thai knee as they break. Ikemoto jumps forward with some wild shots, and a spinning back fist. Ikemoto takes down his opponent, and lands a few punches from his feet to the downed opponent. Wrist control on the bottom, but no body control. Ikemoto passes to half guard, and Saffiedine keeps him close. Saffiedine goes for the arm between the leg sweep, and it fails. Saffiedine scrambles back to his feet, and eats a few punches on the way up. Body lock for Saffiedine, but he can’t get the takedown. The referee breaks the action. Over hand right lands for Saffiedine. Lunge punch for Ikemoto does not damage. Hard right lands for Saffiedine and a jumping knee. They clinch again this time Ikemoto pushes his opponent into the ropes, and the referee breaks the action. Another right and a 1-2 combination lands for Saffiedine. Another hard right lands to end the round.

Round 2
Front push kick from Saffiedine doesn’t land. Ikemoto lands a few leg kicks as they circle each other. Saffiedine lands a right and a 1-2. Ikemoto doesn’t seem to have a defense for the right hand. Inside leg kick and high kick land lightly for Saffiedine. Good footwork from Saffiedine allows him to keep good distance from Ikemoto. A hard right counters a Ikemoto leg kick. Ikemoto jumps in, but does not score. Double leg from Ikemoto is stuff, and he pulls guard. Saffiedine immediately passes to half guard and has head and arm control. Saffiedine passes to side control with the instep on thigh pass. Ikemoto tries to buck and scramble, but Saffiedine holds him down from side control and lands a knee. He moves to mount, but Ikemoto is able to buck and attempt a heel hook. Ikemoto can’t finish but uses the move to sweep, and lands a few shots from the top. Body-body-head combination from Ikemoto ends the fight.

Hayato “Mach” Sakurai (35-8-2) vs. Marius Zaromskis (9-2)
Round 1

Flying jump kick misses for Zaromskis, and his flurry misses. Muay thai knee and some hard right hands from Sakurai. Hard leg kicks from Sakurai. Zaromskis lands a hard combination and tries a flying knee. Sakurai clinches, and the referee breaks it quickly. Left down the pipe for Sakurai. Both of the fighters are throwing heavy shots. Hard right for Sakurai and he level changes for a takedown in the corner. The referee breaks the action, and repositions in the center of the ring. Sakurai is in half guard. Sakurai tries to pass and Zaromskis gets back to his feet. Zaromskis is the much more aggresive striker, but does not land much more, as the fighters trade. Hard clinch knee for Sakurai. The referee stops the action so the doctor can check a cut over Sakurai’s eye. After a long break, they restart the action. Head kick from Zaromskis drops Sakurai, and the following flurry forces the referee to stop the action.

Andre Galvao (3-0) vs. Jason High (7-1)
Round 1

High knee from Galvao, and High takes him down. Galvao sweeps immediately, but High sweeps him back. Galvao works hard for a half guard sweep, and High posts on his hand. Eddie Bravo would say Galvao is going for the “Old School Sweep.” Galvao slips behind High, and High stands to his feet. Knees to the back of the legs from Galvao, and the referee breaks the action. Galvao gets dropped by a counter right hand. High is in Galvao’s half guard but can’t land. Galvao goes for a leg lock, but High defends. Galvao continues to push for the submission, as he locks in a toe hold and stretch the leg. High pushes his foot on the buttock to defend against the knee bar. High looks comfortable and neither fighter seems to want to move. Galvao rolls and High is able to escape. Galvao passes to the top, and is in High’s half guard. As Galvao passes, High scrambles, but Galvao takes the back with the body triangle. Ear muffs for High to defend, and Galvao tries to soften him up with punches. The arm is under the chin, but High pulls the hand from his head. Galvao has the Severn hold for a second, but High is able to break his grip. Galvao transitions to the mount, but High gives his back again. Back to the mount. The arm is under the chin again, but High once again is able to squirm out. Galvao goes for an armbar from the back at the bell.

Round 2
High knee lands for High, and it seems like Galvao is in trouble. He enters the guard, but then stands up and makes Galvao stand. Galvao lands a hard right hand. Hard left hand misses for Galvao and he eats a leg kick. Body kick lands for High and a flurry is mostly blocked. Galvao changes levels for a takedown, but it isn’t even close. High comes in with a flurry and eats a right. Left hook and muay thai knee socres for Galvao. High right kick for Galvao, and he slips, High kicks the legs a few times and bring Galvao back to the feet. Hard body kick lands for High. Counter left score on Galvao. Another body kick hit the liver of Galvao, and then another. A high kick misses at the bell.

Kikuno Katsunori (11-1-1) vs. Andre Amade (6-3-1)
Round 1

Dida throws a hard right to start off, but it misses. A high right kick misses too, but the counter right drops Katsunori. Amade circles while Katsunori stalks with his karate stance with a creepy smile. They clinch along the ropes, but break quickly. The referee warns the fighters that a yellow card is coming if the action does not pick up. Both fighters miss with kicks. Body kick for Katsunori, and he takes Dida down. Immediately moves to the mount, and then takes the back. Once there he unleashes and flurry of punches and the referee stops the fight.

Melvin Manhoef (23-5-1) vs. Paulo Filho (16-1)
Round 1

Filho changes levels, for the takedown, but Manhoef fights off the attempt and lands some knees in the clinch. Some punches land, but Filho covers up and avoids most. Hard upper cuts and hooks are being hurls towards Filho’s head and body. Manhoef follows Filho to the ground, and lands some shots from inside the half guard. Manhoef stands up and makes Filho come up too. Filho is stunned by hard punches, but is able to drag Manhoef to the mat, and he quickly takes the mount and transitions to an armbar and finishes the fight.

Jesse Taylor (11-3) vs. Dong Sik-Yoon (4-6)
Round 1

Taylor shoots in on a double leg and finishes. Yoon is quickly back to his feet, but Taylor drags him to mat and ends up in side side control. Taylor moves quickly on top and takes the back. During the scramble Dong Sik Yoon’s knee or ankle gives out and Taylor wins by TKO. Taylor is visibly concerned for his opponent.

Shinya Aoki (20-4) vs. Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro (20-2)
Round 1

Aoki keeps the distance with his kicks. Ribeiro throws a 1-2, but it he can’t close the distance. Aoki avoids the strikes by keeping his distance. Good right hand by Shaolin. Aoki scores with a body kick, and then another. Left hook lands, but right hand misses for Shaolin. Aoki put another kick to the boxing guard of Shaolin. Aoki get the muay thai clinch, but can only land one knee. Hard body kick by Aoki and then another. Shaolin backs Aoki into the corner, but Aoki turns it around and a throws a knee and lands a punch. Shaolin has no answers for right high kicks. He’s taken several on the arms. Ribeiro catches a kick and tries to follow with a punch, but he doesn’t land. Jab lands for Shaolin, but there isn’t much on it. The referee calls for action. Shaolin catches a kick and tries to turn it to a single, but Aoki defends well and circles away. Shaolin in on a single leg, and Aoki wizars and gets his foot back on the ground. Aoki catches Shaolin with a punch as he pulls away. Riberio lands an overhand right, but Aoki is not phased and continues to throw round kicks. Aoki defends another single leg and lands a clinch knee and Ribeiro backs out.

Round 2
More of the same to start the second round, as Aoki continues to score with the kicks. Shaolin is being more aggressive coming forward, but he gets caught in the Muay thai clinch each time. He eats several knees. Shaolin finally finishes a single leg, but he had to eat a knee to so it. Aoki uses a tight guard and pulls Shaolin close. The referee pauses them momentarily to reposition in the center of the ring. Aoki pulls rubber guard, but lets it go. Shaolin throws shots to the body, and Aoki momentarily pulls rubber guard again. He uses the position to control Shaolin, but does not offer any offense. Ribeiro throws some wild strikes to end the round, and not many land.

Welterweight Final
Jason High vs. Marius Zaromskis
Round 1

The two fighters clinch right away. It looks like High is going to take Zaromskis down, but he defends. High finally gets the trip and ends up inside the guard. High gets to his feet, but Zaromskis gets back to his feet. High jumps for a guillotine, but loses it and ends up on the ground. He goes for an armbar, and Zaromskis retreats to his feet. High is caught with a straight punch and then a head kick that leaves Jason High out cold.

  1. Yeahhh! Richard! Should be a fun card. I wish I had bet the farm on Jesse Taylor. They have him as the underdog. The love child of Judge Alex and Big John is da man!! :) :) Ok maybe he’s not the man but he is pretty damn good, on a nice streak, and a bit underrated.

  2. LOL at Sakurai being allowed all night to lose weight. Guy Mezger said something must have been wrong with the scale.
