PRO MMA (promma.info) was on hand at Revolution Fight League’s “Maximum Impact” card held this past Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Horseshoe Casino in New Albany, Ind.

A sell out crowd of over 3000 fans were in attendance to see Ron “The Monster” Sparks of Louisville MMA crowned the new RFL Super Heavyweight Champion with a unanimous decision victory over Clarksville, Tenn.’s Johnathan Ivey in the main event.

Both guys were looking to land the big punch early and it was Ivey who landed some good combos first. However, toward the end of the first round Sparks opened up with combinations and knee strikes that had Ivey backing up to take the round.

The rest of the fight was basically a kickboxing match even though there were times Ivey tried his style of unorthodox fighting by attempting a crane kick and several rolling knee bars and even motioning Sparks to the ground which Sparks did not oblige.

Sparks shrugged it off, did not play into Ivey’s game, and continued to land more strikes earning the decision victory.

Also on the card was Bodog veteran John Troyer from Louisville MMA who was coming off a KO victory over Billy “Mojo” Horne for the MMA Big Show Welterweight Title just a week ago.

Troyer went up against JR Hines of Lexington, Ky. Troyer wasted no time by taking Hines down immediately and worked his way to put Hines in a crucifix position. From there Troyer rained down punches until Hines tapped out due to strikes in the first round.

Appearing as special guests were TUF veteran Junie Browning and original UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver. Both fighters were very gracious to the crowd, taking pictures with any fan who asked and hung out with the crowd throughout the night.

“RFL: Maximum Impact” had an electric atmosphere, the production was top notch, and fans were treated to an entertaining night of pro and amateur MMA action.
