Remaining bouts confirmed for “UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida”

With a main event UFC Light Heavyweight Title fight between Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida and a highly anticipated bad blood match between Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has confirmed with PRO MMA (promma.info) the remaining bouts for “UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida.”

UFC 98 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 23 and will air live on pay-per-view beginning at 10:00 PM EST / 7:00 PM PST.

Middleweight Drew McFedries (fighting out of Bettendorf, Iowa), has scored three UFC wins so far in his career, with all three coming in the first round. Now the Ames, Iowa native will face devastating striker Xavier Foupa-Pokam a.k.a. “Professor X” (fighting out of Paris, France). A Muay Thai specialist, Foupa-Pokam has compiled an impressive 20-10 mixed martial arts record and looks to make a name for himself in the UFC.

MMA Flashback: 2002 – Ben Rothwell vs. Johnathan Ivey

The year was 2002. The organization was UNITED STATES MIXED MARTIAL ARTS. The name of the show was “USMMA 2: RING OF FURY” and it took place in Lowell, Massachusetts on September 21st at the Tsongas Arena. In this edition of PRO MMA’s (promma.info) “MMA FLASHBACK” we are focusing on the heavyweight co-main event title fight between a young 20-year-old kid named Ben Rothwell and 25-year-old Johnathan Ivey (Travis Lutter was fighting Jorge Rivera in the main event on this card).

Most people now know Ben Rothwell as the fighter who went undefeated and dominated the IFL heavyweight division as a member of Pat Miletich’s Quad-City Silverbacks. After the IFL shut down it was time for Rothwell to really test himself. He faced former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski at “Affliction:Banned” in July 2008. It just so happened that the “old Pitbull” decided to show up that night and left Rothwell crumpled on the canvas after a vicious knockout. However, Rothwell bounced back in his next and most recent fight last December at “Adrenaline MMA 2” and finished off one Chris Guillen midway through round one via submission from elbow strikes.

Is Bobby Lashley here to stay? – “MFC 21: Hard Knocks” airs live on HDNet Friday, May 15th

Maximum Fighting Championship’s “MFC 21: Hard Knocks” takes place Friday May 15, 2009 at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Alberta, Canada. MFC Light Heavyweight Champion Emanuel Newton (11-3-1) will be defending his title against contender Trevor Prangley (19-5) in the main event.

Former WWE professional wrestler Bobby Lashley (2-0) will be returning to the MMA ring as he takes on Mike Cook (6-3). Also on the card will be Elite XC and King of the Cage veteran Travis Galbraith (16-6) taking on UFC veteran David Heath (10-4). Former UFC fighter John Alessio (24-13) makes his MFC return and another UFC veteran, Marvin Eastman (15-9-1) makes his MFC debut.

When MFC promoter Mark Pavelich was recently asked by MMA Canada what will make the Bobby Lashley vs. Mike Cook fight interesting for the fans he replied, “If Mike Cook knocks him right in the face and knocks him down, that will be an interesting fight, right?  I would love to see Cook smash him right in the mouth and I want to see how he reacts to being smashed in the mouth by Mike Cook. And then if he can come back and win the fight, that will show if he is really in the sport to stay or if he’s just a fad.”
