Eddie Alvarez will compete in the lightweight semi-finals at Bellator V

Bellator Fighting Championships’ twelve week tournament series arrives at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio on Friday, May 1, 2009 for “Bellator V” and as is standard procedure for each Bellator event, will air on ESPN Deportes the following day.

“Bellator V” will feature the first round of semi-finals with a $50,000 purse for each winner and will produce two lightweights to compete in the Bellator World Championship finals in June.

Bellator’s CEO Bjorn Rebney commented on the unique opportunity these fighters have, “At Bellator, each tournament fighter has their own destiny in their hands and at the Hara Arena two fighters will get the chance to advance to the Bellator Fighting Championships finals.”

In the 155 lbs. semi-finals, number four ranked lightweight in the world, Eddie Alvarez will face up-and-comer Eric Reynolds and veteran Toby Imada will look to add to his seven fight win streak as he takes on Jorge Masvidal.

The winner of each bout will advance to the lightweight finals for the chance to win a sweet $100,000 grand prize. The card will also have several non-tournament bouts featuring such fighters as Sherman Pendergarst, Dan Evensen, and Dave “Pee Wee” Herman.
