PRO MMA (promma.info) has learned former UFC Welterweight Champion, Matt Hughes could possibly appear on the hit reality show Dancing with the Stars.

According to his personal website, Hughes says, “I just got a phone call from Renana Barkan, the producer of Dancing with the Stars and they want me to be on the show for the next season.”

Hughes is scheduled to fight Matt Serra at UFC 98 on May 23rd. According to Hughes, “The four weeks of training [dancing] doesn’t start until after my fight, so that won’t be a problem, and then we start taping the show right after that.”

No official word has been given if the most dominant UFC champion in history will accept the offer. Hughes said, “I’ll kick the idea around with the wife and we’ll see where it goes from here.”

With multiple NFL celebrities having donned the dancing shoes, Hughes would be the first mixed martial artist to do so. Having an MMA fighter on a nationally recognized show like Dancing With the Stars would be one more step toward the mainstream acceptance the sport seeks.
