Jonathan “The Road Warrior” Goulet (22-10) is a twenty-nine year old Canadian who has been fighting professionally since 2001. He has notable victories over Jay Hieron, Tony Fryklund, John Alessio, and Shonie Carter.

Goulet is looking to get back on track after putting together three straight wins but then giving up a quick first round TKO loss to Mike Swick (13-2) at UFC: Fight for the Troops in December 2008.

Goulet’s next appearance inside the Octagon will be on the highly coveted UFC 100 card set for July 11th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada where he will meet the undefeated Korean, Dong Hyun Kim (11-0-1).

For Goulet to remain relevant in the UFC welterweight division, a win over Kim at UFC 100 is imperative.

PRO MMA’s (promma.info) Tim Thompson had the privilege of recently speaking with Jonathan and the UFC veteran shared his thoughts on a number of topics including hos opinion of B.J. Penn, what would happen if he was ever given a welterweight title shot against Georges St. Pierre, and some things he is into outside the cage.

PRO MMA: Jonathan, how you doing today?
GOULET: I’m doing very good, thank you.

PRO MMA: That’s good. Jonathan, if you could, please tell us how you got into MMA exactly.
GOULET: I got beat by four guys in a bar so I decided to start training so this would never happen again. I met my first trainer in Victoriaville and went from there.

PRO MMA: Your next fight is at UFC 100 against “the Stun Gun” Dong Hyun Kim. Tell me a little bit about how you feel going into that fight.
GOULET: I’m feeling very good. I really wanted that fight. I mean not that guy, but I wanted to fight for that event [UFC 100]. We all know what happened my last fight. The UFC wanted to put me in the UFC at Montreal [UFC 97] cause they know how I fight in my hometown and that would help me mentally but I wasn’t ready because of my knee. I injured my knee…so they gave me UFC 100. So that’s it, I’m really happy.

PRO MMA: Talk about your last fight with Mike Swick. It ended quickly for you, it was a tough fight. Mike Swick is definitely not an opponent to take lightly. Explain to me what exactly happened in that fight.
GOULET: I thought that I hurt him with my left hook, but I guess I only touched him. I saw the fear in his eyes and he stepped back so I jumped head first and that’s it, he caught me and we all know what happened next.

PRO MMA: Preparing for this next fight, I assume you are in Canada?
GOULET: Yes, I am in Canada and will start my training camp soon. I will go to New York two times to train jiu jitsu and I will probably go to New Mexico to train with Team Jackson. I will invest a lot for that training but I will win for sure.

PRO MMA: I know you are friends with Georges St. Pierre. Do you have any thoughts on the whole “greasegate” thing?
GOULET: That is fucking bullshit. I don’t usually talk like this but B.J., I have a lot of respect for him but this time for that shit is too much. It’s way too much and he’s like a baby. He don’t have what he wants so he will do everything to get what he wants. I really hate him just because of that.

PRO MMA: Now that you are down at 170 lbs., if you were to string a couple of wins together, you could possibly get in line to have a fight with Georges [St. Pierre]. What would you think of that?
GOULET: I will not fight him. He’s my friend and I will continue to train with him. We have the same trainers. It will be stupid for me to accept a fight but you know I will have to build my way to a title shot but if I had that chance I would not take that chance because we have all the same trainers so I wouldn’t be able to train. So that’s it.

PRO MMA: You have fought some tough guys in the UFC such as Mike Swick, Dustin Hazelett, and Josh Koscheck. Is there anyone else in the UFC welterweight division you would like to fight?
GOULET: Of course. Karo Parisiyan. He won his last fight so I would need to build my way up but I might be able to fight Karo Parisiyan. I need to rebuild my way up and I’ve had some bad luck but, I am confident I will one day be in the top ten.

PRO MMA: I’m trying to get a fighter’s perspective on UFC 100. It seems to be a big deal to a lot of the fans and they are hoping to get a big card on there.Your friend and training partner Georges St. Pierre will defend his title on that one and there is also another title fight lined up. Is it important to the fighters to be on that card? Are you excited to be on UFC 100?
GOULET: It’s going to be a very historical moment. It is really important and you know, I really like those kind of moments. I have already signed the contract and I will do everything I can to fight at that event and it will be my first time at the Mandalay Bay. So I’m very happy and it will be a good experience and it will be two days before my birthday and I just can’t wait to be there.

PRO MMA: Now, let’s try to get to know you on a personal basis. When you’re not training, what are you out there doing? What do you do for fun Jonathan?
GOULET: For fun? I will ask my girlfriend…hold on… (Jonathan asks his girlfriend in French what he does for fun. She says, “scuba diving.”) for now I will start scuba diving. So, I’m doing tons of things. I really like nature so… I’m doing tons of things except training. That’s a bad thing cause I’m getting too much weight between training. I need to be more responsible. I’m eating too much steak and too much sweet things. So that’s it. I’m doing tons of things in nature and I’m eating too much. That’s what I’m doing between fights.

PRO MMA: Alright. So what is your favorite food Jonathan. What is your favorite thing to indulge on the most when you aren’t prepping for a fight?
GOULET: My favorite foods? I really like steak, medium rare…and… no, no, sorry, I’m sorry. I think I prefer seafood, seafood. I’m a real fan of that. I’m not eating that enough. I’m not able to stop when I start eating shrimp and things like that.

PRO MMA: Alright, Jonathan, thank you very much. July 11th, UFC 100, Jonathan Goulet against Dong Hyun Kim. The best of luck to you and we hope to be hearing from you real soon.
GOULET: Thank you very much. Bye bye.
