PRO MMA (promma.info) caught up with new Gladiator Challenge Heavyweight Champion; Rick Randolph immediately following his victory over Steve Walston this past Saturday night at Gladiator Challenge: Point Blank.

Although he may disagree, Randolph showed no fear of Walston’s superior strength advantage, dominating the larger Walston for the entire 3:20 of the first round, en-route to becoming the new heavyweight champion.

PRO MMA: How does it feel to hear, ‘Rick Randolph: Gladiator Challenge Heavyweight Champion’?
RANDOLPH: That’s cool. I didn’t think that I would hear: Heavyweight. I thought it would be Light Heavyweight, but we’ll take it!

PRO MMA: What was that feeling like when your hand was raised and the belt was wrapped around your waist?
RANDOLPH: I don’t even remember right now. All I was doing was looking at my wife and looking at my friends….I just knew that I was there. It was a good time. A lot of work, a lot of work. Its fun.

PRO MMA: What was your game plan heading into this fight?
RANDOLPH: Do what happened. I don’t know, I didn’t have a game plan. I wanted to sock him on his feet. I didn’t think he wanted to stand but I knew he was a decent wrestler. I felt that I could hold my own on the ground. I clocked him once, he grabbed a hold of me real quick and we ended up on the ground. He’s a strong boy, so I knew I didn’t want him on top of me.

PRO MMA: Was the weight disadvantage weighing on your mind at all heading into the fight?
RANDOLPH: No, no. I roll with heavyweights all the time. It is what it is.

PRO MMA: Rick, what did you learn about yourself in this fight?
RANDOLPH: (laughs) Ah….you know, that’s all fighting really is. So every time….it’s really just learning about yourself. You can’t really say it. If you can put it into words, it probably isn’t true. I just know that, one more time, I have to go out there and do what I was afraid to do and come out on top.

PRO MMA: Besides celebrating, what is next? Maybe a rematch?
RANDOLPH: You know, we’ll see. Right now I’m going to go home and run around with my belt for a few days and we will see what happens.

PRO MMA: Thanks for joining us.
RANDOLPH: Thank you very much.
