It has been reported that Russian MMA fighter Kirill Sidelnikov (5-3), also known as “Baby Fedor”, has been suspended for one year and fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for the anabolic steroid, Stanozolol.
Sidelnikov’s positive test results stem from his last fight on January 24, 2009 at Affliction: Day of Reckoning in Anaheim, California, where he lost to Paul Buentello (27-10) by TKO due to doctor’s stoppage in the third round. Although nicknamed “Baby Fedor” due to his physique and aggressive fighting style, he was no match for the wily veteran that is Buentello.
Stanozolol is the same substance that Chris Leben (18-5) tested positive for after his UFC 89 loss to Michael Bisping in October, 2008. He was sentenced to a nine month suspension and had to forfeit one-third of his purse.
The same report at Sherdog also indicates Wesley “Cabbage” Correira (19-14) has been fined $1,000 and suspended six months after testing positive for marijuana prior to a February 13 scheduled bout in Fresno, California that never took place.
If Strikeforce, the UFC and WEC had effective, honest, random steroid screening drug tests I believe MMA fans would be shocked to discover how many MMA athletes are cheating. George St. Pierre, Uriah Faber and Cristianne Cyborg Santos are all suspected of cheating to defeat their opponents.
