UFC Fight Night 18: weigh-in results & photo gallery

PRO MMA (promma.info) was live on the scene Tuesday afternoon at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee for the UFC Q & A session as well as the UFC FIGHT NIGHT 18 weigh-ins.

Local fans spent an hour asking numerous questions to UFC commentator, Mike Goldberg and TUF 9 lightweight winner, Efrain Escudero at the Q & A. Following that, there was an hour break, then it was time for the weigh ins.

It first appeared all fighters would make weight easily as the process moved along smoothly. The first to miss weight was lightweight Jeremy Stephens as he stepped off the scale two pounds over the 156 pound weight limit for lightweight.

Maximo Blanco, loose cannon, good prospect

There was a lot of hype and hoopla around Team Takedown once it had been announced. Investors were going to pay former collegiate wrestlers a salary so they could train full time and expedite their MMA careers. For the most part of the concept has succeeded with two of the members in the WEC and one in the UFC.

Unbeknown to many in the western MMA world, World Victory Road has been doing pretty much exactly the same thing on the other side of the globe. It had been announced back in September that Maximo Blanco would be a “Sengoku training player,” which means his development as an MMA fighter will assisted by World Victory Road.

UFC Fight Night 18 open workout photo gallery

PRO MMA  (promma.info) was on hand today at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee for the UFC: FIGHT NIGHT 18 open workout with Junie Browning and Ryan Bader, as well as the main event fighters, Martin Kampmann and Carlos Condit.

Each of the guys checked their weight, hit mits, shadow-boxed, rolled around a bit, and spoke with the local television stations. It was a bit surprising to hear some of the questions the local media was asking and really drove home the point that we still have a long way to go in educating the general mainstream public about MMA.

Forrest Griffin was present to support some of his Xtreme Couture friends on the card and coach Shawn Tompkins from Xtreme Couture was there to hold mits and assist with Kampmann and Browning’s workout.
