K-1 Champion Taishin Kohiruimaki with a vicious headkick

Over ten thousand people were in attendance for the FieLDS K-1 WORLD MAX 2009 Tournament in Tokyo, Japan on Monday February 23, 2009. Winning three bouts in one night, Taishin Kohiruimaki won the tournament at Yoyogi Olympic Stadium. It was the veteran kickboxer’s third World Max Japan Championship, having also taken the crown in 2004 and 2005.

The 31 year-old Aomori-born kickboxer was the oldest fighter in the tournament. Having won just twice in his last seven World Max bouts, few people figured on Kohiruimaki coming out on top in the eight-man elimination tournament. Here are the complete results:
