In 2001 a new Las Vegas-based MMA promotion by the name of the WFA (World Fighting Alliance) was formed under the leadership of MMA trainer/fighter, John Lewis and nightclub promoter, John Huntington. The Nevada State Athletic Commission had opened the doors for MMA and it was on. PRIDE and SHOOTO veteran, Frank Trigg had trained under Lewis, so naturally he would be one of their first stars. At this point in his career Trigg was 7-1 and was coming off his first loss, which was to Hayato Sakurai a year earlier in Dec. 2000.

The WFA held their first event in Nov. of 2001 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas and Trigg, fighting at welterweight was looking to get back on track and ended up ground and pounding the very experienced Laverne Clark into a third round submission. Eight months later the WFA was back at the Hard Rock with their second show and this time Trigg was facing 10-2 Jason Medina. Here is that fight. Keep in mind this is the weight (170lbs.) Trigg has announced he will return to.
