Cris “Cyborg” Santos is determined to become the next among a long line of champions that have been produced by the legendary camp that has been greatly respected and feared by many for years, Chute Boxe.

Chute Boxe has produced numerous world champions over the years. Fighters such as Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Sila, and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua are just a few who have called Chute Boxe home at one point or another during each of their impressive careers.

It is this standard of excellence that Cris is looking to carry into ElieXC’s female division. Well known for her top notch muay-thai game and tenacious fighting style, Santos has been carving a path of destruction on her way to title contention and is currently riding a four-fight knockout streak. If she is victorious over Yoko Takahashi on October 4th at CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fights, Santos will move herself one step closer to achieving the gold she so desires as most expect her to face the winner of the Carano/Kobold showdown.

PRO MMA (http://promma.info) had the opportunity to have a few words with Cris Santos recently and discussed her upcoming fight with Yoko, how she feels she matches up with Gina, and who to look out for coming from the Chute Boxe camp.

PRO MMA: How are you feeling physically right now?
Cris Cyborg: I’m very well prepared! I train hard all the time.

PRO MMA: Who have you been training with for this fight and how has training been going?
Cris Cyborg: My Muay Thai coach is Nilson de Castro, my wrestling coaches are Fabinho and Cristopher Led, and my Jiu-Jitsu coach is Cristiano Marcello.. I do all my cardio and weight training with Daniel Lima and my swimming coach is Ederley.

PRO MMA: What do you know about Yoko and how do you feel you ladies match up?
Cris Cyborg: I think it’s going to be a very exciting fight. I hope I can use my Muay Thai, but I’m prepared for just about everything..

PRO MMA: You have won four in a row by way of knockout. Do you expect to keep your knockout streak alive when you fight Yoko?
Cris Cyborg: Of course! Thank God everything is going my way. I hope it continues the way it is and I’m working very hard for that to happen!

PRO MMA: Are you anticipating having to knockout Yoko twice like your previous fight with Shayna Baszler or will once be enough this time?
Cris Cyborg: I hope it’s just once but if one is not enough I’ll do it all over again until she can’t get up.

PRO MMA: Many people expect for you to fight Gina Carano if you are successful with Takahashi. Do you know anything about her opponent Kelly Kobold and what do you think will happen in that fight?
Cris Cyborg: I don’t know anything about her opponent but I hope they have a great fight. I also hope to be the next in line to face Gina. If she wins, of course.

PRO MMA: What do you think about Gina’s stand up game and do you think you will be able to knock her out?
Cris Cyborg: I train hard, I like exchanging punches and I’m not a fan of boring fights. If she wants to go toe-to-toe with me, somebody is going down. I hope she’s the one to drop!

PRO MMA: Does being married to another extremely exciting Chute Boxe fighter, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, help to keep you both focused in your training?
Cris Cyborg: At home it’s all about fights 24/7. My husband and I train together and stay together all the time. We like the same things and that helps a lot.

PRO MMA: Chute Boxe has produced many of the very best fighters in the world. Anderson Silva, Wanderlei, Silva, Mauricio and Murilo Rua, Pele, Evangelista, and yourself. Who are some of the up and coming fighters from Chute Boxe that most people haven’t heard of yet?
Cris Cyborg: Chute Boxe is a real champion factory. New names, such as Mario Soldado, Marcio Gracinha, Junior, Bel and Vinicius will be in the fight scene very soon and that’s just to name a few because we are working hard to have many more. If promoters want to have exciting fighters in their shows, Chute Boxe is the place to find them.

PRO MMA: What are your long term goals in mma and how long do you plan to fight for?
Cris Cyborg: I want to keep on fighting as long as God gives me the power and strength to do so. Fighting is my life.

PRO MMA: Can you give us a prediction for your fight with Yoko Takahashi?
Cris Cyborg: It’s going to be an exciting fight. I want to do that for my fans. I want to deliver a very nice performance.

PRO MMA: Are there any sponsors or people that have helped you that you would like to thank?
Cris Cyborg: I want to thank all the promoters for letting me show my work. I’m sure they won’t regret it. I’d like to thank all of my fans worldwide for their support. My training partners, my coaches, my managers, my sponsors. There’s a little bit of every single one of these people in every win I have.

PRO MMA: Thank you for your time Cris and good luck on your fight!
Cris Cyborg: Thank you!

  1. I don’t see anyway that Gina can compete with Cyborg. Her tempered agression which is improving with every fight will overwhelm Gina who is more of a tactician imho.

  2. Cyborg is an animal but Gina really surprised me in her fight with Kobald. It’s hard to pick a winner because both are just SO good on their feet and that’s where all of this fight will take place. Gina/Cyborg could easily be one of the most exciting female fights to date. Whoever wins it promises to be a WAR!

  3. I really think Cyborg will be Gina’s downfall. She is just so damn tough. Hopefully Elite XC doesn’t try to “fix” it somehow.
