Affliction Entertainment held a news conference at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Wednesday to announce their next event, apocalyptically dubbed “Day of Reckoning” (cue sound of thunder).  One might suggest Affliction management has some cojones coming into the hometown of the UFC to hold their next event showcasing some of the UFC’s former biggest stars.  However, you don’t see any of the Vegas venues closing the doors on Affliction, not allowing them to set foot on the sacred ground of UFC territory.  Loyalty such as that may as well by a myth when millions of dollars are at stake.  Evidently it’s all systems go for Affliction’s “Day of Reconing” and here’s how the card is shaping up:

Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett – winner of this fight is supposed to get Fedor as a reward
Paul Buentello vs. Roy Nelson
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
Matt Lindland vs. Vitor Belfort
Chris Horodecki vs. TBA

That’s right, Affliction has signed Horodecki.  Many people were hoping the IFL star would sign a contract with the UFC, where the lightweight competition could help provide an accurate assesment of where the young phenom ranks among its fighters. But that didn’t happen and now Horodecki is facing TBA in a new organization with the depth of an Anna Nicole Smith lookalike contest winner.

Much ado has been made in recent days about Tito Ortiz signing with Affliction.  Some said the deal was almost done and some said it was done.  Others expected Tito’s signing to be announced at the Affliction press conference on Wednesday and chuckled at the irony there would be if Dana White’s nemesis signed the biggest deal in MMA history with a rival organization in the UFC’s hometown.  Well, that didn’t happen as Tito did not show up at the event and Tom Atencio confirmed that no deal with Tito has been signed.
